BBC questions 7/7 bombers' “clean skin” identity...

The suspected ringleader of the July 7th London bombers was known to intelligence services last year in an undercover operation, according to the BBC.

Mohammad Sidique Khan was the purported leader of the four suicide terrorists who detonated their deadly bombs on London's transport network in July.

The London bombers killed 52 innocent people and injured hundreds.

Sidique Khan was filmed speaking to a British-based terrorist suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, according to the BBC, citing an unnamed source, whose claim is as yet uncorroborated.

A joint probe by BBC Radio Four's File on Four and BBC2's Newsnight claimed Sidique Khan had been in contact with al-Qaida activists over the past five years.

Sidique Khan also went to Pakistan in 2003 and met an Islamic extremist who admitted at a later date to being a "fixer" for Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida terror network.

He also travelled to Malaysia and the Philippines in 2001 to meet with terrorist leader Hambali of the extremist Islamist group Jemaah Islamiah, according to the BBC.

It had been thought the London bombers were all "clean skins", men able to slip the notice of intelligence services as they did not have a visible past history of terrorist activity.

But the BBC said the new information, if corroborated, would suggest a "serious failure" of intelligence.

The Metropolitan Police declined to comment on the allegations.
